Traditional Holiday Shindig....

Well, Amanda, Preston you know the usual holiday New Orleans trip? I know Preston and I talked about the 26th.

The 26th seems like the best day... I think my mom actually booked a room for that night on the corner of Bourbon and Canal. She rocks..

I dunno how much room we'll have in the hotel, but anyone else is more than welcome to join the festivities so long as you have a place to stay... whatever..

Jody and Melissa, you guys absolutely need to come with us. Amanda I hope you can make it. I like the little tradition we have started and I hope we can keep it up.

Also Jody and Melissa we need your address information to send you a wedding invitation. Jodie is fussing at me about it....

Just give me a call and let me know what is up with the 26th...

Thoughts...

Not surprised at all that Obama won. Not happy not disappointed... a politician is a politician is a politician. I do think I'd rather have Obama in there than McCain's old fart ass for a repeat of the Bush administration.

I do find it funny though when I asked every African American in the kitchen at work who they voted for and why their answer was "he's black" or "he's a democrat"... and when I asked every caucasian who they voted for and why they said "he's not a muslim" or "he's white" or "he's republican"..... people are stupid, paying more attention to silly party afiliations, skin color, and other extraneous factors that mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things

Obama is not a miracle worker...... this miraculous change he speaks of isn't going to happen in one term..... maybe not even two. He might get us moving in the right direction, but I'm personally not going to hold my breath. To all you uber-conservatives (if there are any on livejournal) it won't be as bad as you think it will.... and to all of you uber-liberals..... it won't be as miraculous and awesome as you think.

I like Obama I think his tenure in the white house will be good for us... go America for not being quite as retarded as I thought.... not quite.

New Orleans Weekend

Jodie and I went to N.O. for a couple of days and had ourselves a great time. We got entirely too drunk on Friday and spent entirely too much money, but it was well worth it.

Last night we went to see the Colour Revolt at One Eyed Jack's. This is the only good band to come out of Mississippi in years. If you haven't listened to them yet you should. I've liked them since I first heard their EP a couple three years ago and they've just gotten better. We got to meet the drummer's dad and a couple of his friends and they were all really nice. Their live show is great. You can really tell how musically... in sync (for lack of a better word) they are with one another and that they will probably go places and completely blow up within the next couple of years. They kind of made The Public (who opened) and the other band Snowden look like amateurs, and they've only been around half as long as the other bands. Just get their album "Plunder, Beg, and Curse" You might like it.

We also went to the aquarium. I haven't been there since I was 8 or nine and it was pretty cool. We took tons of pictures everywhere we went I'll post them some time soon.

Jodie and I are engaged! She said yes and all that jazz. Still don't know when the wedding is going to be.

Semester is almost over.

Buckley was in the hospital for a couple of days with some sort of bacterial infection or something. He was really sick! He's better now though.

I listened to Sharkpunch for the first time in like a year or so and the newest one "I love breakdowns" is pretty great. I thinks it's been out for two years or something which is a good indicator of my lack of knowledge of the current internet.

Album: The Parlor Mob - And Your Were a Crow

I like it a ton. It's like if the White Stripes had balls, then you mix it with a little bit more Zeppelin and sprinkle it with some Jeff Buckley. The song Tide of Tears is great. It's a good listen.

Brody...

Trey and Amy had their baby today..... about two months premature.

I woke up to my phone vibrating on the table. It was Trey. I went to bed early so I thought it was only midnight or so and Trey was just calling to shoot the shit or ask me a question. I looked at the clock just to make sure and I saw it was ten till six in the morning. I knew something was terribly wrong so I called back. He was hysterical. Apparently Amy had three seizures this morning due to toxemia caused by pre-eclampsia (a complication of pregnancy). I've heard Trey cry twice (maybe) since I've known him and today was one of the days and it's really not a fun thing to hear .
Pre-eclampsia effects about seven in one hundred pregnancies (at least to this degree). It can be fatal to the child and the mother when this severe. In order to have a chance of being able to save either one of them they had to do an emergency c-section. Amy is under 24 hour surveillance to make sure that she won't get worse. If she gets any worse they are going to have to transfer her to a hospital in a university setting that way they have the most state of the art treatments available. There is no cure for toxemia. All they could really do was deliver the baby and hope it gets better. If it doesn't all they can do is treat her kidneys, liver, etc. and hope that she levels out. Right now all is well for the baby and Amy so I'm hoping it stays that way. It was a pretty scary day today, because we thought we could lose both Amy and Brody, but they both gave death a big PISS OFF with a flying middle finger and bounced right back! So for now all I'm going to do is pray for them and hope they continue to improve
Brody was born at 29 weeks and weighed 2lb. 6oz. They sent an emergency NICU travel team to get him from Picayune and now he's up here in Hattiesburg, which means Jodie and I are going to have a house full of Trey and Amy's family until April (when Brody gets out hopefully) if they desire to stay. They can move in for all I care I just want to help. Even though he was so premature he came out breathing almost entirely on his own. They had taken him off of the respirator last time I heard and he was breathing strong, so hopefully he continues to improve. He's a strong little guy and he's fighting so everyone keep him in your thoughts.

I'M A FREAKIN' UNCLE!!

Well, I just got a text message from my mom saying that she got me/whoever else is going a room in N.O. for the 26th. She got us a hotel room last New Years or the one before too. She's super cool!

Ok, school sucks a whole ton of butthole right now. My biochem teacher is an evil whore so i'll be cramming for the exam tomorrow till about twelve or so tonight. The class average on the first test was less than a 40 (my grade was a 64) and the average on the last test was 58 (my grade 70). I'm thinking there will be a curve the size of Texas on the final average considering the final is comprehensive and 40% of the grade.

Anyway, on to more interesting things (at least to me).

I really want to write an album or something perhaps a cross country online collaboration? I think it would be a fun time. Being that just about anyone can record music on a computer nowadays I say why the hell not. It would probably be pretty easy too. What do ya think?

We totally got first pick in the upcoming litter of great danes! I'm so freakin psyched about finally being able to have a dog (much less a great dane) it's retarded. I haven't had a pet since I lived in my folk's (unless you count Jody or Mason on those heavy drinking nights). The new place is working out pretty well so far. It's old so there are a lot of creaks and thuds in the night, but i'm slowly getting used to it.

Anyone have a bass they want to get rid of for super cheap? I've been elected for bass in a faux hXc band and I need one.

Jody, do you still have my bobo swede jacket with the weird cotton lining and crap all over it? Not that I want it back or anything I was just wondering what happened to it, because the last time I remember seeing it was the night you got really drunk at Albert's and tried to sleep in the backseat of the Maxima.

I hope all is well with everyone, or becomes well soon.

Music: Devin Davis - Lonely People of the World Unite!! You should all listen to this album. It's one of my favorites right now. It's really catchy pop/garage/retro/mostly pop rock. Super good stuff!

Jody: Call me when/before you come down that way we can arrange for everyone to meet up and destroy N.O. Still the same old number (601) 590-0437

Summing up Jodie's post that accidentally got posted as a comment:

It's been a hectic time here lately. Things are good. We're moving closer to downtown and it should be good.

We're also getting a freakin great dane! We're trying to figure out a name for him (help us out), but we should have a puppy in middle of march. Standing on his hind legs he'll be between 6 and 6.5 feet and top out at about 160 lb. A big ol baby, we're both really excited.
We're going to see the Sword in N.O. on the first. It's gonna be bad to the ass. I'm psyched that Jody's coming down and about the fun times to be had in N.O.

Anyway, if your into metal shreddery you should listen to John5 He's the former guitarist for Marilyn Manson I know you're thinking, "there's no way anyone with any musical relation to Marilyn Manson can be talented." but he's damn good, kind of along the lines of buckethead, doesn't have quite the chops but the music isn't pretentious guitar wankery like most of bucketheads. Of course it's way more awesome to SEE them play, but the auditory aspect of it isn't shabby...

Off to play some subspace and neglect the homework!!!

This weekend was pretty good. Sat. I went to see High on Fire, Mono, The Panthers, and Colisseum... Mono was probably the best band. They play a weird sort of ambient/noise rock, pretty good stuff. High on Fire put in some serious work. Bad freaking ass.
