Mastodon show was incredible.  They played through the new album, and then basically worked their way back in the catalog all the way to Remission stuff.  They played for almost three hours.  Good Stuff.

The new mewithoutYou is excellent.  I think we're going to see them in June in Metairie.... someone should go with us.

Traditional Holiday Shindig....

December 4th, 2008 (10:30 pm)
Music: Jeff Buckley - Nusrat, He's My Elvis... ..

Well, Amanda, Preston you know the usual holiday New Orleans trip?  I know Preston and I talked about the 26th.

The 26th seems like the best day... I think my mom actually booked a room for that night on the corner of Bourbon and Canal. She rocks..

I dunno how much room we'll have in the hotel, but anyone else is more than welcome to join the festivities so long as you have a place to stay... whatever..

Jody and Melissa, you guys absolutely need to come with us.  Amanda I hope you can make it.  I like the little tradition we have started and I hope we can keep it up.

Also Jody and Melissa we need your address information to send you a wedding invitation.  Jodie is fussing at me about it....

Just give me a call and let me know what is up with the 26th...

Thoughts...

November 5th, 2008 (10:32 am)
current location: Fritsche Gibbs Hall USM..... Still
Music: Antony and the Johnsons - Twilight

Not surprised at all that Obama won.  Not happy not disappointed... a politician is a politician is a politician.  I do think I'd rather have Obama in there than McCain's old fart ass for a repeat of the Bush administration.

I do find it funny though when I asked every African American in the kitchen at work who they voted for and why their answer was "he's black" or "he's a democrat"... and when I asked every caucasian who they voted for and why they said "he's not a muslim" or "he's white" or "he's republican"..... people are stupid, paying more attention to silly party afiliations, skin color, and other extraneous factors that mean jack shit in the grand scheme of things

Obama is not a miracle worker...... this miraculous change he speaks of isn't going to happen in one term..... maybe not even two.  He might get us moving in the right direction, but I'm personally not going to hold my breath.  To all you uber-conservatives (if there are any on livejournal) it won't be as bad as you think it will.... and to all of you uber-liberals..... it won't be as miraculous and awesome as you think.

I like Obama I think his tenure in the white house will be good for us... go America for not being quite as retarded as I thought.... not quite.

New Orleans Weekend

June 1st, 2008 (09:27 pm)

Jodie and I went to N.O. for a couple of days and had ourselves a great time.  We got entirely too drunk on Friday and spent entirely too much money, but it was well worth it.

Last night we went to see the Colour Revolt at One Eyed Jack's.  This is the only good band to come out of Mississippi in years.  If you haven't listened to them yet you should.  I've liked them since I first heard their EP a couple three years ago and they've just gotten better.  We got to meet the drummer's dad and a couple of his friends and they were all really nice.  Their live show is great.  You can really tell how musically... in sync (for lack of a better word) they are with one another and that they will probably go places and completely blow up within the next couple of years.  They kind of made The Public (who opened) and the other band Snowden look like amateurs, and they've only been around half as long as the other bands.  Just get their album "Plunder, Beg, and Curse"  You might like it.

We also went to the aquarium.  I haven't been there since I was 8 or nine and it was pretty cool.  We took tons of pictures everywhere we went I'll post them some time soon.

Music and life

April 27th, 2008 (09:09 pm)
Music: Sharkpunch - I Love Breakdowns

Jodie and I are engaged!  She said yes and all that jazz.  Still don't know when the wedding is going to be.

Semester is almost over.

Buckley was in the hospital for a couple of days with some sort of bacterial infection or something.  He was really sick!  He's better now though.

I listened to Sharkpunch for the first time in like a year or so and the newest one "I love breakdowns" is pretty great.  I thinks it's been out for two years or something which is a good indicator of my lack of knowledge of the current internet.

Album:  The Parlor Mob - And Your Were a Crow

I like it a ton.  It's like if the White Stripes had balls, then you mix it with a little bit more Zeppelin and sprinkle it with some Jeff Buckley.  The song Tide of Tears is great.  It's a good listen.
